From August 17 to August 30, 2026, the International Research and Training Center for Science and Technology Strategy (CISTRAT) of Chinese Academy of Science and Technology for Development (CASTED) successfully held the 13th International Training Workshop on Science and Technology Innovation Policy Research and Methods in Belt and Road Countries. This training workshop focused on the theme “Open Science Policies and Practices” and recruited a total of 18 participants from 11 countries in Asia, Europe, Africa and America.

With the support of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the Chinese National Commission for UNESCO, the training workshop was jointly organized by Chinese Academy of Science and Technology for Development (CASTED) and Guangxi-ASEAN Technology Transfer Center. Experts from UNESCO, MOST, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and international universities and research institutions were invited to give lectures to the trainees. During their stay in Beijing, trainees went to International Research Center for Big Data on Sustainable Development (CBAS) and Zhongguancun Exhibition Center for research and study. During their stay in Guangxi, trainees conducted research in Nanning on topics like AI infrastructure, smart agriculture, science park development, and China-ASEAN tech exchange and cooperation.

After the training, the trainees spoke highly of the event and said that the training provided a good learning and exchange platform for developing countries, and the lectures taught had guidance and reference significance for the formulation of science and technology policies of their countries. It is hoped that CISTRAT can continue to play an active role in building an international scientific and technological exchange platform for developing countries, and sharing China's experience and wisdom in policy formulation and implementation.
